Laptop's screen saver question.?

Pardon me, I'm new to laptop. Every like 5 minutes of not using my laptop, the screen goes black. I dont know if thats the screen saver or something. Because sometimes I watch movies on my laptop and this always always happens like every minutes or so screen goes black. Any idea how stop this or how to turn this off? Or is it really like that on laptops.
