Help with the scarlet letter?

I can see how you could relate it to R&J. Though the main conflicts of the books are different, I suppose you could say both couples' love for each other led them to do extraordinary things (such as killing themselves because the other had died in R&J, and making himself sick over remorse in SL). I was thinking you might also be able to compare it with Ethan Frome if you've read that already. If you haven't I won't spoil it for you (though I wouldn't suggest reading it if you don't have to) but it's also a romantic book that is pretty similar in theme to SL :)
